This page serves as an introduction to exercises conducted by the group. Exercises are important for many reasons including

  • Ensuring familiarity with equipment and its operation
  • Becoming used to operating away from familiar surroundings
  • Rehearsing readiness (and discovering how easy the converse can be)
  • Building confidence and competence in operating procedure
  • Ensuring we have a team of people familiar with working with each other
  • Testing our planning and preparation skills prior to exercises

Exercises often involve assisting at sporting or charitable events, typical examples including:

  • Cambridge Starshine Stroll A sponsored walk around Cambridge City where we provide communications across the course, walkers with tracking beacons and help liaise with first aid services
  • AMR Peterborough 100 A multi-distance cycle event covering the area around Rutland Water with challenging communcations needs

We also sometimes plan and conduct exercises with professional services and authorities such as the following:

  • Point to Point Testing between various key sites in Cambridgeshire for the emergency services in case of national telecommunications failure
  • Exercise White Nile a joint exercise of a simulated rail accident in conjuction with British Transport Police and other emergency services and volunteer groups

The above is merely a representative sample of activities and is far from comprehensive.
